Delphinium Belladonna 'Bellamosum Dark Blue' / Larkspur / Seeds

A free flowering Delphinium with lots of dark blue flower spikes all the way through summer, from June to September.  The Belladonna Delphiniums are cultivated hybrids that are great border plants and informal cut flowers.  Plants grow to a height of 90-120cm and do not generally need staking except for more exposed sites.

Delphiniums grow best in sun to part shade and moist, well-drained fertile soils.  They are deciduous and hardy, so suitable for a wide range of UK gardens.

Pack of approx 50 seeds.  Sow in late winter/early spring for first year flowers.  Sow into late summer for next year flowering.  Sowing instructions and a colour photo are printed on the packet.

Harmful if eaten.

Hardiness Hardy herbaceous perennial (RHS Hardiness H5)
Flowers June to September
Height 90 - 120cm
Spread 30cm
Conditions  Sun to part shade and fertile, moist and well drained soil
Sow Sow in late winter/early spring indoors into trays or cells of moist seed.  Cover lightly with compost, and keep the tray constantly moist, but not waterlogged, at 20-25°C.  Germination takes 2-3 weeks.  Pot on young seedlings and harden off before planting out after the last frost.  Or sow seeds in trays in a greenhouse from spring into summer for next year flowers.  Protect later sowings in a greenhouse or coldframe over the first winter.
Grow Protect young plants from slugs and snails.  Trim spent flower spikes down to the nearest bud to encourage more flowering.  Tidy plants in autumn/winter once they have died back.  Plants emerge from the ground again in spring.  Basal cuttings can be taken in early spring from mature plants.
