Eschscholzia californica ‘Ivory Castle’ / Californian Poppy / Seeds

A lovely heritage variety of Californian Poppy with creamy white cup-shaped flowers from June to October. These are very easy to grow hardy annuals, forming clumps of fern-like leaves, with big tissue-paper petals of flowers.  Plants grow 30-35cm in height.

Californian Poppies prefer sun and poor or moderately fertile soil.

Pack of approx 300 seeds.  Sow directly into prepared soil in early autumn or late spring.  Early spring sowings can be done in pots.  Sowing instructions and a colour photo are printed on the packet.

Hardiness Hardy annual (RHS Hardiness H3)
Flowers June to August/September
Height 20 - 30cm
Spread 20 - 30cm
Conditions  Full sun and poor to moderately fertile soils

Sow in autumn or late spring, up to early June, directly in the soil, on the surface and rake over lightly.  Or sow in early spring 5mm deep in plugs/pots of seed compost and keep at room temperature.  Germination takes 1-2 weeks.  Plant out into the garden in late spring, disturbing the roots as little as possible.

Grow Deadhead plants to prolong flowering.  Remove plants in autumn after they have finished flowering.  Plants self seed freely, but not always in the same colour.
