Rocket / Wild Rocket 'Challenger' / Seeds

A British bred variety of wild rocket with a good flavour and slow to bolt, so suitable for growing throughout the summer.  This variety has been bred to overcome some of the difficulties of growing wild rocket, with good vigour, an upright habit and strong dark leaves with a firey flavour.   You can harvest wild rocket throughout the summer and into autumn, sowing a fresh batch every 2-4 weeks for a regular crop of cut-and-come-again leaves.  Each plant produces tasty leaves from about four weeks for a period of 6-8 weeks.

Pack of approx 3000 seeds.  Sow directly in the soil outside from March to August, or grow indoors in pots all year round, providing a minimum germination temperature of 10C. Sowing instructions and a colour photo are printed on the seed packet.

Hardiness Hardy annual
Height Up to 20cm
Spread 10-20cm
Conditions  Light sun to part shade and moist well drained soil

For indoor cultivation: Sow year-round on the surface of moist seed compost in trays or pots.  Cover lightly with compost, and keep at 10-20C. Germination takes 2-3 weeks.  Keep moist and give the plants good light.   For outdoor cultivation: Sow in succession from March to August directly in the soil in rows 15cm, and thin the seedlings to 10-20cm apart.

Grow & Harvest Keep plants lightly moist as this maintains steady growth and helps prevent bolting. Feed with Nitrogen-rich fertilizer to help the plants grow rapidly.  Leaves are ready to eat from about 4 weeks and each plant provides leaves for 6-8 weeks. Cut a few leaves from each plant on a regular basis.  Pinch out flowering tips to prolong leaf production.  Discard plants when the leaves become tough.
