Thymus zygis / Spanish Thyme / Seeds

This is a lovely fragrant species of Thyme from Spain.  It is a good garden plant, with sturdy stems, growing to a height of about 30cm.  This plant has fine evergreen leaves and white flowers in midsummer.

Spanish Thyme is a strongly aromatic plant – the leaves are used to make Thyme Oil, a traditional medicine.  The leaves are also used in cooking and as a herbal tea.

Spanish Thyme prefers a sunny spot and rich well drained soil.

Pack of approx 50 small seeds.  Sow in spring or autumn, with autumn sowings needing protection in a greenhouse over winter.  Sowing instructions and a colour photo are printed on the packed.

Sow

Sow in spring or autumn on the top of moist seed compost and do not cover with compost, as light is needed for germination.  Cover with a clear plastic bag or lid (and remove after germination).  Keep at 12-20°C and germination takes 2-4 weeks. Pot on and grow until ready to plant out into the garden after the last frost in a sunny spot.  Protect autumn seedlings in a greenhouse or cold frame over winter.

Grow Plants need little attention once established.   They can be trimmed back after flowering to keep tidy. They make good pot plants.  Plants are easy to propagate – they can be divided in spring or semi-hardwood cuttings take well in summer.
