Echium ‘Bedder Blue’ grows best in full sun and well-drained soil.  They grow well in containers as well as directly in the garden.

Hardiness Hardy annual (RHS Hardiness H7)
Flowers May/June to September
Height 45cm
Spread 20 - 35cm
Conditions  Full sun and poor to moderately fertile soils
Sow

Sow in March/April or August/September directly into the ground or into trays of moist compost. Sow to a depth of about 6mm.  For directly sown seeds, rake over gently and keep moist until the plants are established.  For tray-sown seeds, keep at 20°C and germination takes 1-2 weeks.  Transplant seedlings into pots when they are big enough to handle and out into a sunny position in the garden after the last frost.  Autumn sowings flower earlier than spring sowings.

Grow Deadhead plants to prolong flowering.  Remove plants in autumn after they have finished flowering.  Use gloves when handling the plants as the small spines can irritate the skin.
