Eschscholzia californica ‘Ballerina Mix’ / Californian Poppy / Seeds

A Californian Poppy with an attractive mix of large double and semi double flowers in in a wide range of brilliant colours.  Flowers have crinkled edges and appear from June to August/September, sitting neatly on mounds of feathery leaves.  Plants grow to about 25cm in height and may need support in exposed areas.

Californian Poppies prefer sun and poor or moderately fertile soil.  They self-seed, although the colours may change in subsequent years as the bees cross-pollinate the flowers.

Pack of approx 500.  Sow directly into prepared soil in early autumn or late spring, or early sowings can be done indoors in seed trays for planting out in late spring.  Sowing instructions and a colour photo are printed on the packet.

Sow in autumn or spring directly in the soil, on the surface and rake over lightly.  Or sow in early spring 5mm deep in plugs/pots of seed compost and keep at room temperature.  Germination takes 1-2 weeks.  Plant out into the garden in late spring, disturbing the roots as little as possible.

Grow Deadhead plants to prolong flowering.  Remove plants in autumn after they have finished flowering.
