Lavender ‘Mini Blue’ / Lavandula angustifolia / Seeds

Lavender ‘Mini Blue’ is a good new variety of Lavender.  Plants are compact, with upright stems, intensely fragrant grey-green leaves, and lots of flowers from June to October.  Plants grow to a height of 25-30cm and are good in containers, in gravel gardens and for edging.

Lavender ‘Mini Blue’ grows best in a warm sunny spot and in light, well-drained soil.  It is winter hardy and cold tolerant and needs little or no clipping, so very easy to maintain.

Pack of 30 Tuned seeds.  Sow in spring to autumn.  These are tuned seeds, and do not need the winter chilling normally needed to germinate Lavender seeds.  Sowing instructions and a colour photo are printed on the packet.

Sow

Sow February to April for first year flowering, and into autumn for next year flowers.  Sow on the surface of moist seed compost and cover lightly.  Keep at 18-20°C and germination takes 1-3 weeks.  Pinch out the growing tips of seedlings once they are established to encourage a bushier habit.  Transplant seedlings into pots when they are big enough to handle.  Protect summer/autumn sown plants over the winter in a greenhouse or cold frame, and plant out in late spring.

Grow Plants need little care once established.  Lightly trim plants after flowering.  Do not cut into the woody parts of the plant, as stems may not regrow.  Plants are not generally troubled by pests and diseases. Semi-ripe cuttings take very easily in summer.
