Alchemilla mollis / Lady's Mantle / Hardy Perennial / Seeds

An excellent and adaptable garden plant, with good ornamental foliage and strong clusters of yellow/lime green flowers in late June to September.  Lady’s Mantle is good for ground cover, front of borders, landscaping and mixed containers.  It grows to a height of about 50cm. It is also a good cut flower.

Lady’s Mantle is hardy and tolerates sun and shady sites. Once established (with watering in the first year) it is drought resistant and will self-seed well.

Pack of approx 100 seeds.  Sow in the autumn/winter in a coldframe and the seeds germinate in early spring once dormancy is broken.  Or sow seeds in spring/summer following an optional 2 weeks in a fridge.  Sowing instructions and a colour photo are printed on the packet.

Hardiness Hardy herbaceous perennial (RHS Hardiness H7)
Flowers June to September
Height 50cm
Spread 20 - 50cm
Conditions  Plant in sun to shade and in most soils
Sow

Sow October-February in moist seed compost, and overwinter in a coldframe with a clear glass cover.   This breaks seed dormancy.  Seeds start to germinate in early spring.   Or sow March-September in a tray of seed compost (just cover with compost) and place in the fridge for 2 weeks in a sealed bag and then keep at 15-20°C and germination takes 4-5 weeks.  The pre-cooling is not essential but helps improve germination which is typically about 65% for Alchemilla seeds.

Grow

Keep seedlings watered in the first year while they establish.  Tidy up the plants in autumn to spring.  Mature plants can be divided in spring or autumn.  Plants often self seed and spread naturally around the garden.
