A popular ornamental Allium with very large flowerheads of silvery lilac star-like flowers in June and July. Great for the middle of a border, where surrounding plants distract from the uninteresting leaves. Grows to a height of 30-50cm with each flowerhead as much as 20cm across. The flowerheads make good cut and dried flowers and provide interest in the border over winter.
Alliums like sun or part-shade and well drained soil.
Pack of 30 seeds. Sow in the autumn/winter in a cold frame or against a north facing wall and the seeds germinate in the spring onwards once dormancy is broken. Or sow seeds in spring/summer following 4 weeks in the fridge. Seedlings emerge slowly. Sowing instructions and a colour photo are printed on the packet.
