Anemone multifida 'Rubra' or 'Annabella Deep Pink' / Windflower / Seeds

A spring flowering Anemone from the Annabella series.  These plants have lovely fern-like leaves and upright stems of carmine-red to deep pink flowers from May to June/July.  There are attractive cottony seedheads in winter.  This plant looks good in the front of borders, pots or in a rockery, growing to a height of 30cm.  Can also be used for shaded ground cover.

Anemone multifida grows best in part shade to shade and well-drained and composted soil.  It grows well in full sun in cooler climates.

Pack of 30 seeds.  Sow in cooler conditions, from autumn to spring, and germination is prolonged and erratic, so sow more than you need.  Sowing instructions and a colour photo are printed on the packet.

Sow

Sow in cooler conditions from autumn to spring.  Sow in moist seed compost with a light covering of seed compost or vermiculite and keep at 15-20°C.  Germination takes 2-4 weeks, but is erratic and can take up to two months.  If there is no germination within 2 months, move the tray to a fridge for 2-4 weeks and back outside and seeds start to germinate in a few weeks.  Protect autumn sowings over the first winter in a greenhouse or cold frame, and plant out in the spring.

Grow

These are low maintenance plants once established.   Trim them back after flowering if they look untidy.  Plants spread naturally, and can be divided in early spring or autumn.
