Briza media / Common Quaking Grass / Seeds

A lovely decorative grass, growing wild in the UK and also great for gardens.  It grows to a height of about 45cm and has green/purplish seedheads which shake in the breeze.  Seed heads mature June to August.  The seedheads make excellent dried flowers.

Quaking grass grows best in full sun to part shade.  It will grow in pots and in the garden. Once fully grown, it can be divided in the spring.

Pack of approx 150 seeds.  Sow anytime in a seed tray or in the summer directly in the ground.  Sowing instructions are printed on the packet.

Hardiness Hardy perennial grass (RHS Hardiness H7)
Flowers June to August
Height 45cm
Spread 10-20cm
Conditions  Grow in full sun to part shade.
Sow

Sow anytime in a tray of moist seed compost and cover very lightly with compost or vermiculite. Keep at around 20°C and seedlings emerge in 2-3 weeks.  Pot on and grow until the plants are ready for the garden, planting out before the first frost.  Or sow directly in the ground to a depth of about 3mm during the summer (while frost free).

Grow

This grass needs little maintenance once established.  Leave the seedheads on the plants until late winter, when the plants should be cut down to ground level.  New shoots appear in spring.
