Calendula officinalis 'Orange King' / Pot Marigold / Seeds

A lovely heritage variety of Pot Marigold, with big double bright orange flowers.  Plants flower all summer from May/June to September.  They grow to a height of 45-60cm and are ideal for sunny gardens and pots.  These make excellent cut flowers and the flowers and leaves are edible.

English Marigolds grow best in full sun and well-drained soil.

Pack of approx 300 seeds.  Sow in spring or autumn. Sowing instructions and a colour photo are printed on the packet.

Hardiness Hardy annual (RHS Hardiness H5)
Flowers May/June to September
Height 45 - 60cm
Spread 45cm
Conditions  Grow in full sun and well-drained soil.
Sow

Sow in autumn or early spring in a tray or pots of moist seed compost and cover with 6-10mm of compost.  Keep at 18-23°C and seedlings emerge in 1-2 weeks.  Pot on and grow until the plants are ready to plant out in late spring.  Keep autumn sowings in a greenhouse or cold frame over winter.   Or sow directly into cultivated soil in late spring (May and June).

Grow

Water young plants regularly, especially if grown in pots.  Remove spent flowers to encourage more flowering and to prevent self-seeding.  Remove the plants once they have died back in the autumn.
