Echinops bannaticus 'Blue Glow' / Blue Globe Thistle / Seeds

A great border plant, with spiky leaves and tall spikes of globe shaped intense blue flowers in mid to late summer.   Plants grow up to 1 to 1.5m in height when in flower and look good grouped together in a border.  The globes make good cut and dried flowers.  Plants attract a wide range of pollinators.

Globe thistles prefer full sun to part shade and any soil that is not waterlogged.

Pack of 50 seeds.  Sow in spring to autumn. Sowing instructions and a colour photo are printed on the packet.

Hardiness Hardy herbaceous perennial (RHS Hardiness H7)
Flowers July to September
Height 100 - 150cm
Spread 40 - 60cm
Conditions  Sun to light shade and any soil that is not water-logged
Sow

Sow the seeds in spring to autumn.  Sow onto the surface of a tray of compost.  Cover very light with compost, or simply press the seeds into the surface of the compost.  Keep the seed tray at about 20°C and germination takes 2-3 weeks.  Transplant seedlings into small pots when they are big enough to handle and then out into the garden after hardening-off.

Grow Plants are very hardy and tolerant of most soils and aspects.  Deadhead if you want to control self-seeding.  The plants die down in the winter, when the old foliage can be cleared away, and they start re-growing in the spring.  Root cuttings can be taken in winter.  Divide mature clumps in spring or autumn.
