A compact Echium with upright spikes of russet-red flowers in summer, from May to August. These plants grow grey green hairy leaves in the first year and flowers in the second year. They grow to about 30cm in height and are useful fillers for hot sunny borders and containers. Echium amoenum is a traditional herbal medicine and the plants are very attractive to bees and other pollinators.
Echium 'Red Feathers' prefers sun and well drained soil, and is hardy for most UK gardens, but may need protecting in the coldest gardens and in very cold winters. Plants are drought tolerant once established.
Pack of 20 seeds. Sow the seeds in spring to autumn for flowering the next year. Sowing instructions and a colour photo are printed on the packet.
Parts of the plant are a skin irritant.
