Helianthemum 'Mutabile Mixture' / Rock Rose / Seeds

Rock Roses with shiny green leaves and a mass of small buttercup-like flowers in pink, cream, rose and red.  Flowers come out in late spring, typically May to July, sometimes followed by a second flush later in summer.  These are really good Mediterranean plants, growing well in a hot and sunny border, in gravel gardens and in coastal gardens.  They form good ground cover, up to a height of about 30cm and spreading to about 50cm over time.

Rock Roses prefer full sun and well drained soils.  Plants tolerate drought and coastal gardens once established.  They attract pollinators into the garden.

Pack of approx 500 seeds
.  Sow indoors from spring to autumn or direct sow into the ground from mid May to June.  Sowing Instructions and a colour photo are printed on the packet.

Seed how your seeds are packed.

Hardiness Hardy evergreen perennial (RHS Hardiness H5)
Flowers May to July
Height 20 - 30cm
Spread 30 - 50cm
Conditions  Sun and well-drained soil, typically neutral to alkaline but plants also tolerate slightly acid soils
Sow

Sow the seeds indoors or in a greenhouse in spring to autumn in a tray of compost, cover lightly with compost, keep at around 20°C and germination takes 2-3 weeks.  Or seeds can be direct sown into cultivated soil in mid-May and June after all risk of frost has passed.  Pot on young seedlings and plant out after the last frost.

Grow

Trim back the plants after flowering, typically in mid-summer.  Do not trim back into the hard wood.  There may be a second small flush of flowers afterwards.  Otherwise the plants need very little attention once established and are generally untroubled by pests and diseases.  Stem cuttings take well in summer.
