Sow

Sow in autumn on the surface of a tray of seed compost. Press the seeds into the compost and cover in clear plastic.  Over-winter in a cold frame or unheated greenhouse.  Seedlings emerge in early spring.  Or sow anytime.  Keep at 20°C. If there is no germination in 3-4 weeks, place the tray in a fridge for 2-4 weeks and then back into the warmth for germination.  Do not exclude light which is needed for germination.  Transplant the seedlings into pots and then into the garden after the last frost in a sunny position.

Grow Grow plants in well drained soil to enable survival over winter.  Plants need little care once established.  Lightly trim plants after flowering.  Do not cut into the woody parts of the plant, as stems may not regrow.  Plants are not generally troubled by pests and diseases.  Semi-ripe cutting can be done in summer.
