Liatris spicata 'Floristan White' / Blazing Stars / Seeds

Liatris ‘Floristan White’ has attractive tall spikes of white flowers in summer, from July to September.   Plants grow to a height of 75-90cm and are good for borders and containers.  They attract butterflies into the garden, and are popular cut and dried flowers.

This Liatris grows best in full sun and moist well drained soil – it will tolerate part shade.  It is drought resistant once established.

Pack of 50 seeds.  Sow in spring to autumn.  Sowing instructions and a colour photo are printed on the packet.

Hardiness Hardy herbaceous perennial (RHS Hardiness H7)
Flowers July to September
Height 75 - 90cm
Spread 30 - 50cm
Conditions  Sun and moist well drained soils
Sow Sow in spring to autumn.  Sow on the surface of a tray of moist seed compost.  Press the seeds lightly into the compost and cover with a clear lid. Do not exclude light.  Keep at 15-25°C, cooler at night.  Germination takes 3-4 weeks, sometimes up to two months. Transplant seedlings into pots when they are big enough to handle and into the garden after the last frost. Protect summer/autumn seedlings over the winter in a greenhouse or cold frame before planting out in the spring.
Grow Plants typically flower in the season after sowing.  Plants may need staking in exposed gardens.  Plants die back in winter, when the stems can be removed at ground level, and they start growing again in spring.  Mature clumps can be divided in spring.
