Sow

Sow in spring or autumn.   Sow on the surface of a tray of seed compost and keep at 15 – 18°C.  Cover with a plastic bag or propagator lid until germination and do not exclude light. Germination takes 2 to 3 weeks. Transplant the seedlings to pots when they are big enough to handle, and plant out after the last frost. Overwinter autumn sowings in a cold frame or greenhouse and plant out in the spring.

Grow

Plants grow a rosette of leaves first and then flower in late spring.  Remove spent flowers by cutting the flower stalks back to the rosette of leaves.  After plants have finished flowering, cut the plants back to just above ground level and a new rosette of leaves will grow and you may get a few more flowers. Plants can be divided in spring. Root cuttings can be taken in late autumn/early winter.
