Pennisetum villosum 'Cream Falls' or Fountain Grass / Seeds

A lovely ornamental grass, growing in small clumps to a height of 60-80cm.  This grass has attractive pendulous creamy-white flowers all summer, from June/July to the first frost.  This is a great plant for borders and is a good cut and dried flower.

Fountain Grasses like a moist, well-drained soil in sun or part shade.  They are easy to look after, and many survive the winter in warmer areas of the UK, where they can be tidied up in early spring.

Pack of 30 seeds.  Sow the seeds in spring or autumn in a greenhouse, or sow directly into cultivated ground in spring.  Sowing instructions and a colour photo are printed on the packet.

Hardiness Half hardy perennial, often grown as a 1st-year flowering annual (RHS Hardiness H3)
Flowers June to September
Height 60 - 80cm
Spread 60cm
Conditions  Sun to part shade and well-drained soil, protected from hard frosts or grown as an annual
Sow

Sow the seeds directly into cultivated and weed free soil in September or March-May, about 3-4mm deep.  Germination takes 2-3 weeks.  Or sow the seeds in cells or small post of compost in spring or autumn in compost and cover very lightly with compost or vermiculite.  Do not exclude light which is needed for germination.  Cover with clear plastic.  Keep at 15-20°C and seedlings emerge in 1-2 weeks.  Pot on and plant out after the last frost.

Grow

Plants flower easily in the first year.  Cover in a dry mulch and most plants will survive the winter.  They are deciduous and die back in winter.  Cut back dead leaves and flower stalks in spring.  Mature clumps can be divided in spring, typically March and April.
