Salvia nemerosa 'Rose Queen' / Rose Sage / Seeds

A compact Sage with masses of salmon-rose flower spikes in June to September.  Plants have a good compact and sturdy habit, growing to a height of about 60cm, and look good in borders and containers.  Sage attracts lots of bees and butterflies into the garden.

Sage grows best in a sunny place in humus-rich well-drained soil.  Plants are drought tolerant once established.

Pack of 30 Seeds.  Sow seeds in late winter into summer. Sow early in the year for first year flowering.  Sowing instructions and a colour photo are printed on the packet.

Hardiness Hardy deciduous perennial (RHS Hardiness H7)
Flowers June to September
Height 60cm
Spread 30cm
Conditions  Sun and humus-rich well-drained soil
Sow Sow in late winter into summer in a tray of seed compost, and cover very lightly with compost. Do not exclude light.  Keep at a constant 18-24°C (colder temperatures will reduce germination) and germination takes 1-3 weeks.  Pot on when seedlings are big enough to handle and pinch out the growing tips when plants are larger than 10cm, to encourage a bushier habit.  Harden off before planting out.  Sow early for first year flowers.
Grow Plants grow well in containers as well as borders.  Cut back faded flower stalks and more will appear into late summer.  These are herbaceous plants and the leaves die down in winter, when the dead material can be removed.  Plants grow again strongly in the spring.  Mature plants form clumps, which can be divided in spring to maintain the vigour of the plants.  Protect new growth in spring from slugs, snails and leaf hoppers.
