Salvia sclarea 'Vatican Pink' / Pink Clary Sage / Seeds

A pink tinged variety of Clary Sage with large scented grey/green leaves and upright spikes of flowers in June to August. The flower spikes grow 60-90cm tall.  They look great in borders, coastal and Mediterranean gardens.

This is a hardy Salvia that grows best in full sun to light shade and fertile well drained soil.  Plants are drought tolerant once established.

Pack of approx 50 seeds.  Sow in early spring indoors or late spring directly into the ground.  Sowing instructions and a colour photo are printed on the packet.

Hardiness Hardy short-lived deciduous perennial (RHS Hardiness H5)
Flowers June to August
Height 60 - 90cm
Spread 40 - 60cm
Conditions  Sun to light shade and rich well drained soil
Sow Sow in late winter into late spring in a tray of seed compost, and cover very lightly with compost.  Do not exclude light.  Keep at a constant 20-25°C (colder temperatures will reduce germination) and germination takes 2-3 weeks and can be erratic.  Pot on when seedlings are big enough to handle.  Harden off before planting out.
Grow Cut back faded flower stalks and more will appear into late summer.  These are herbaceous plants and the leaves die down in winter, when they can be removed.  Plants grow again in the spring for a further two to three years.  Protect new growth in spring from slugs and snails.  Plants self seed in the right conditions but may revert to pale pink rather than white. Remove flower stalks before they set seed if you do not want self-seeding.
