Teucrium orientale / Oriental Germander / Seeds

Oriental Germander is an Eastern Mediterranean plant, with appealing pannicles of small lavender-blue flowers, appearing from June to August/September.  Plants have finely dissected leaves, with a bushy habit and grow to a height of about 40cm.  They look particularly good in rock gardens and gravels gardens, attracting bees and pollinators into the garden.  They are good cut flowers.

Oriental Germander grows best in full sun and well drained soils.  Plants repeat flower after deadheading.  They cope well in containers and garden walls, as they are drought tolerant.

Pack of 30 seeds.  Sow from mid winter to early summer.  Germination is erratic, so sow more than you need.  Sowing instructions and a colour photo are printed on the packed.

Flowers June to August/September
Height 30 - 40cm

Sow

Sow mid winter to early summer in a tray of compost.  Cover the seeds very lightly with compost and moisten. Keep the tray at 20-25°C and germination is erratic, taking 4-8 weeks.  Do not discard the tray too quickly.  Transfer seedlings into pots when they are big enough to handle.  Harden off seedlings before planting out.  Early sowings will flower in the first year.

Grow Plant out in a sunny position.  Deadhead flowers to encourage more.  Tidy up plants in the spring.  Softwood cuttings take well in spring and early summer.
