Thymus serpyllum / Creeping Thyme / Seeds

This is a popular and versatile creeping Thyme.  It produces an evergreen low growing carpet of aromatic green leaves, and a dense display of blueish purple flowers in May right through to the end of summer.   Creeping Thyme is good ground cover, nice in rockeries (will trail over walls) and can be used as a lawn.  It with stands moderate foot traffic.

Thyme prefers a sunny spot and moist well drained soil.  It will tolerate light shade and is very frost hardy.

Pack of approx 500 small seeds.  Sow the seeds anytime, with quick germination.  Sowing instructions and a colour photo are printed on the packet.

Hardiness Hardy evergreen herb
Flowers May to late summer
Height 5cm
Spread 20 - 50cm
Conditions  Sun and well drained neutral to alkaline soils
Sow

Sow anytime in moist seed compost and do not cover with compost, as light is needed for germination.  Cover with a clear plastic bag or lid (and remove after germination).  Keep at 15-20°C and germination takes 2-4 weeks.  Do not overwater as this can cause damping off (early death of young seedlings below and above the soil surface).  Pot up and grow on until ready to plant out into the garden in a sunny well-drained spot.

Grow Plants need little attention once established.   They can be trimmed back after flowering to keep tidy.  Plants spread and self-seed and can be removed as necessary to prevent them overtaking the garden.  They make good pot plants.  Plants are easy to propagate – they can be divided in spring or semi-hardwood cuttings take well in summer.
