Tomato 'Ailsa Craig' / Tasty Heritage Cordon Tomato / Seeds

A popular heritage tomato, which is early to ripen and has a good deep flavour.  Plants have heavy-yielding fruits of good quality.  These tomatoes can be grown indoors or outdoors and crop from June/July to October.

This is a Cordon tomato that grows to about 200cm in height and should be supported with a cane or similar structure.

Pack of approx 100 seeds. Sow in January to April, typically needing a propagator or warm window ledge.  Sow from December for growing in a heated greenhouse and later for growing outdoors. Sowing instructions and a colour photo are printed on the seed packet.

Hardiness Half hardy annual
Height Up to 2m
Spread 50cm
Conditions  Warm sun and fertile, moist, well drained soil
Sow

Sow January to April 6mm deep in trays or pots of seed compost.  Cover lightly with compost or vermiculite and keep at 16-20°C. Germination takes 7-10 days.  Transplant seedlings into pots or grow-bags(3 per grow-bag) when they are big enough to handle.

Grow & Harvest

Keep plants in a greenhouse or plant outdoors 45cm apart after the last frost.  Remove side shoots and provide support.  Feed with high potash fertilizer once the fruit has set.  Water regularly.  Fruits from June/July to October.  Pinch off the top growing tip of each plant in early autumn to encourage all remaining green fruits to ripen.  Remove plants after harvest.
