Hardiness Half hardy annual
Height Up to 1.5m
Spread 50cm
Conditions  Warm sun and fertile, moist, well drained soil
Sow

Sow January to March for indoor cultivation and March for outdoor cultivation.  Sow thinly on the surface of moist seed compost and cover lightly with vermiculite or seed compost.   Keep at 16-18°C and germination takes 7-14 days. Transfer seedlings to pots when they are big enough to handle and then into grow-bags (3 plants per bag) or pots indoors, or outside, after hardening off and after the last frost.

Grow & Harvest

Keep plants in a greenhouse or plant outdoors 45cm apart after the last frost.  Remove side shoots and provide support if growing as a single stem.  Plants can also be grown as a bush.  Feed with high potash fertilizer once the fruit has set.  Water regularly.  Fruits from June to September.  Pick the fruits just before full ripeness to avoid splitting.  Pinch off the top growing tip of each plant in early autumn to encourage all remaining green fruits to ripen.  Remove plants after harvest.
