Viola hybrida 'Fire Shades' / Pansy / Seeds

A bushy and compact Viola with deep rose flowers and attractive yellow eyes, flowering from February to August.  Plants grow to a height of 15-25cm and have a sweet fragrance. Good for containers and borders.

Viola ‘Rose Shades’ performs best in sun or part shade.

Pack of 30 seeds.  Sow spring to autumn in trays of seed compost.  Spring sowings give summer flowers, and summer/autumn sowings give flowers from early spring.

Hardiness Hardy short-lived perennial
Flowers Spring to autumn
Height 15 - 25cm
Spread 10 - 15cm
Conditions  Full sun to part shade and moist well-drained soil
Sow Sow in spring to autumn.  Sow on the surface of moist seed compost.  Press the seeds lightly into the compost.   Keep at 15-20°C and germination takes 2-3 weeks.  Do not exclude light, which helps germination. Transplant seedlings into pots when they are big enough to handle and out into the garden after the last frost. Protect summer/autumn seedlings over the winter in a greenhouse or cold frame before hardening off and planting out in early spring.  Sow in early spring for summer flowers.
Grow Plants are very hardy and can be planted out when conditions are frosty, provided they are hardened off first.  They grow best in fertile soil, and should be fed regularly (eg fortnightly) if grown in containers.  Deadhead to prolong flowering.  Discard the plants after they have finished flowering.  You can collect and sow seeds, but the plants may flower in different colours to the original mix.
