Zinnia elegans 'Pinca' / Seeds

A large star-shaped double-flowered Zinnia with bright pink cactus flowers from July to the first frost.    Plants grow to a tall 100cm and are good for beds and borders and excellent cut flowers.  The flowers attract butterflies.

Zinnias grow best in sun and moist, rich well drained soil. They are half hardy and are grown in spring for planting out after the last frost.

Pack of approx 100 seeds.  Sow in spring indoors or directly into the garden after the last frost once the soil has warmed up.  Sowing instructions and a colour photo are printed on the packet.

Hardiness Half hardy annual
Flowers July to the first frost
Height 70 - 100cm
Spread 40 - 60cm
Conditions  Sun and moist well drained soils
Sow Sow in spring from March to May.  Sow indoors in small pots or cells of moist seed compost, cover very lightly with compost.  Keep at 20-25°C and germination takes 1-2 weeks.  Transplant seedlings into bigger pots when they are big enough to handle, being careful to avoid root disturbance, and plant out into the garden after the last frost.  Or sow directly into the garden after the last frost once the soil has warmed up, about 2mm deep.  Sow in a warm sunny place in well-drained soil and keep gently moist.  Protect seedlings from slugs.
Grow Seedlings are prone to damage by damping off, so keep equipment clean, do not over water and do not overcrowd plants.  Plants often benefit from staking/support as they grow and produce flower stalks. Deadhead to prolong flowering. Remove plants once they have finished flowering in late autumn and start again from seed in spring.
