More on Growing Agapanthus

I thought I would share the growing experience of a customer David, from Colchester in Essex. The information sounds useful for those of you who are currently collecting Agapanthus seeds and thinking about when and how to sow them.

"... I wondered if a tip Dick Fulcher of Pine Cottage Plants, Eggesford, Devon gave during a talk at RHS Hyde Hall about four years ago. He sowed his Agapanthus seeds as soon as possible after Christmas Day in gentle heat and pricked out in late Spring.

I used to sow in March but the seedlings were often not strong enough to prick out by, or get through, their first winter. I have followed his advice since 2012 and been able to prick out in late April/early May and have stronger seedlings by winter."
